Scout: the new entry level configuration for the Iron and Steel grinding machines

The tangential grinding machines Rosa GrindTech Steel and Rosa GrindTech Iron will also be available in the Scout configuration, a setup designed for those who want to replace a manual machine with a simple, reliable and versatile numerically controlled solution.

The Scout configuration is dedicated to basic operations – such as surface grinding, roughing, and finishing of flat surfaces and profiles – while delivering the same solidity and build quality that has characterized Rosa Ermando / Favretto solutions for over sixty years, at a more accessible price.

This result has been achieved through the optimization of the manufacturing process and an extensive rationalization effort carried out by our R&D department, including a review of the available customization options. Compared to the standard configurations of the Iron and Steel series, Scout offers a more streamlined range of optional features, without compromising precision, robustness, or build quality. This balance is possible because every Scout machine is entirely manufactured at our Rescaldina facility, where we maintain full control over every stage of the production process.

Technical features

Machines in the Scout configuration are governed by the Mitsubishi M80V unit, of the conversational type: it does not require ISO programming and allows any operator to reach full autonomy after just one day of training. While the hardware changes, the interfaces remain the same, ensuring operational continuity for those already using Rosa GrindTech and Favretto GrindTech grinding machines.

In addition to the automatic work cycle, the Scout configuration also offers a manual mode that allows the machine to be operated like a conventional grinder, while still retaining some automated functions of numerical control – such as automatic wheel dressing – useful for quickly performing operations that do not require programming a full cycle.

The configuration is available in N and CN versions, with commissioning times of one day and one and a half days from delivery respectively. Those who start with the N version can later upgrade to the CN version without replacing the machine.

In terms of size, Scout covers workpieces ranging from 800×500×480 mm to 1,200×750×800 mm, with grinding wheel spindle power from 11 to 22 kW, hydraulic oscillation on the X axis, and table traverse speed of up to 40 m/min.

Safety

Even in the Scout configuration, the grinding machines maintain the same safety standards as the other Rosa GrindTech and Favretto solutions: an essential requirement for any industrial machine, established by European regulations and reinforced by the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, in force from 20 January 2027, as well as a principle that guides the design of every one of our machines.

Grinding machines in the Scout configuration are fully enclosed and compliant with the most recent legal provisions on the matter. Providing a compliant machine has always been one of our priorities. In the workplace, however, primary responsibility for safety remains with the employer of the purchasing company: it is up to them to ensure that the equipment in use is safe, that operators are protected, and that everything remains compliant over time, a commitment that does not end with the purchase but accompanies the entire operating life of the machine.
