In-Process Measurement with Integrated Touch Probe

In-Process Measurement with Integrated Touch Probe

One of our customers, operating in the production of high–value-added precision components, contacted us with a clear requirement: to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their machining processes by completely eliminating manual measurements that required removing the workpiece from the magnetic chuck.

This traditional approach caused several issues for the customer, including frequent machine downtime, longer cycle times, a higher risk of human measurement errors, and a negative impact on overall productivity.

The Rosa GrindTech Solution: Integrated In-Machine Touch Probe

After a joint analysis of the process, we proposed the adoption of a measuring touch probe integrated directly into the surface grinding machine.

The touch probe allows the customer to:

• Measure the workpiece without removing it from the table
• Perform automatic compensations directly within the machining cycle
• Eliminate manual intervention during inspection phases
• Ensure micrometric repeatability between consecutive cycles
• Drastically reduce the risk of setup or repositioning errors

Results Achieved

The integration of the touch probe delivered immediate benefits:

• Reduction of cycle times
• Elimination of all manual measurements
• Improved quality thanks to automatic in-process corrections
• Greater geometric stability and repeatability
• Increased production throughput without modifying the existing plant
• Operators more focused on supervision rather than repetitive tasks

The customer was looking for a way to eliminate manual measurements while increasing precision and efficiency.
By integrating the measuring touch probe, we transformed the entire production cycle: in-machine measurements, automatic compensations, higher quality, and zero downtime.

A simple, immediate solution, perfectly integrated into the process.
